Gilbert F. Amelio, Ph.D

Dr. Amelio is a venture capital investor and the former CEO of two Fortune 500 companies, Apple Computer and National Semiconductor. Prior to that he was President of Rockwell Communication Systems, a unit of Rockwell International. He currently is a director of SBC Communications and the American Film Institute. As a technologist, Dr. Amelio has been awarded 16 patents and is an I.E.E.E. Fellow. He earned his Bachelors, Masters and Doctoral degrees in Physics from the Georgia Institute of Technology and is also a jet rated pilot with more than 3600 hours of logged flying time. Dr. Amelio has been the recipient of numerous awards and has also authored or co-authored three books - An American Imperative (1993), Profit from Experience (1995) and On the Firing Line (1998), the latter two of which were business book best sellers.
